F-An alpha-adrenergic receptor blocker for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia. Free Rx meds -Free Rx meds -General Indication: Depression
Fluoxetine hydrochloride is an antidepressant for oral administration; it is chemically unrelated to tricyclic, tetracyclic, or other available antidepressant agents.
Fluoxetine is in a new class of antidepressant medications that affects chemical messengers within the brain. These chemical messengers are called neurotransmitters. Many experts believe that an imbalance in these neurotransmitters is the cause of depression. Fluoxetine is believed to work by inhibiting the release or affects the action of Seratonin.
Fluoxetine is used in the treatment of depression and obsessive-compulsive disorders. The medication is usually taken once or twice daily. Fluoxetine should be taken with food at doses specifically directed by your physician. Individual doses vary greatly between individuals. If discontinued you should gradually withdraw from this medication as directed by your doctor. F-An alpha-adrenergic receptor blocker for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia. F-Treats hay fever and allergy symptoms, hives, and itching. Kytril is an anti-emetic agent used to prevent nausea and vomiting caused by cancer chemotherapy and radiation. It may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor. Prozac (fluoxetine) belongs to the group of antidepressants known as SSRIs (Selective serotonin-reuptake inhibitors) and is probably the most well known of all the anti-depressants.It is used to treat depression and OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder)< Acuitel (Quinapril) is an ACE inhibitor used to treat high blood pressure. Anafranil (Clomipramine Hydrochloride) - TabletAnafranil is manufactured by Novartis. This medicine is a tricyclic antidepressant used to treat depression and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). It may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.
Anafranil, a chemical cousin of tricyclic antidepressant medications such as Tofranil and Elavil, is used to treat people who suffer from obsessions and compulsions. An obsession is a persistent, disturbing idea, image, or urge that keeps coming to mind despite the person's efforts to ignore or forget it---for example, a preoccupation with avoiding contamination.
A compulsion is an irrational action that the person knows is senseless but feels driven to repeat again and again---for example, hand-washing perhaps dozens or even scores of times throughout the day. Evista is a newly approved drug used for the prevention of osteoporosis in post-menopausal women. It is classified as a Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulator (SERM). This means that it produces its effects by binding to estrogen receptors thereby inducing an estrogen-like response in certain parts of the body. Evista has been shown to reduce the body's resorption of bone, and thus decrease the overall bone turnover. In addition, Evista has been shown to decrease total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol, otherwise known as "bad" cholesterol. No effects have been observed on levels of triglycerides and HDL cholesterol. Flomax / Flomaxtra is used to treat the symptoms of an enlarged prostate--a condition technically known as benign prostatic hyperplasia or BPH. The walnut-sized prostate gland surrounds the urethra (the duct that drains the bladder). If the gland becomes enlarged, it can squeeze the urethra, interfering with the flow of urine. This can cause difficulty in starting urination, a weak flow of urine, and the need to urinate urgently or more frequently. Flomax / Flomaxtra doesn't shrink the prostate. Instead, it relaxes the muscle around it, freeing the flow of urine and decreasing urinary symptoms. ZYBAN is given to a patient 150 mg/day (one tablet per day) for three days, and then the dosage is increased to 300 mg/day (2 tablets per day of 150 mg). The course of treatment, which begins ONE WEEK BEFORE THE TARGET QUIT DATE can be 8 weeks or more. It can be stopped abruptly. It can be combined with nicotine replacement therapy
How It Works:
Zyban is the first non-nicotine, FDA-approved oral medication (a pill) for smoking cessation.
Zyban has proven to be twice as effective as the nicotine patch in keeping patients smoke free in the long term. It also has the potential to minimize the weight gain associated with smoking cessation.
ZYBAN is a non-nicotine aid to smoking cessation. Initially developed and marketed as an antidepressant (WELLBUTRIN [bupropion hydrochloride] Tablets and WELLBUTRIN SR [sustained release tablets], ZYBAN is chemically unrelated to tricyclic, tetracyclic, selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitor, or other known antidepressant agents. Its structure closely resembles that of diethylpropion; it is related to phenylethylamines. ZYBAN is a relatively weak inhibitor of the neuronal uptake of norepinephrine, serotonin, and dopamine, and does not inhibit monoamine oxidase. The mechanism by which ZYBAN enhances the ability of patients to abstain from smoking is unknown. However, it is presumed that this action is mediated by noradrenergic and/or dopaminergic mechanisms.
Side Effects:
Like all medicines, Zyban may cause side effects. The most common side effects include dry mouth and difficulty sleeping. These side effects are generally mild and often disappear after a few weeks. If you are having difficulty sleeping, avoid taking your medicine too close to bedtime.
The most common side effects that caused people to stop taking Zyban during clinical studies were shakiness and skin rash. Contact your doctor or health care professional if you have a rash or other troublesome side effects. Use caution before driving a car or operating complex machinery until you know if Zyban affects your ability to perform these tasks.
Warnings -
There is a chance that approximately 1 out of every 1000 people taking bupropion hydrochloride, the active ingredient in Zyban, will have a seizure. The chance of this happening increases if you:
have a seizure disorder (for example epilepsy) have or have had an eating disorder (for example, bulimia or anorexia nervosa)
take more than the recommended amount of Zyban
take other medicines with the same active ingredient that is in Zyban, such as Wellbutrin (bupropion hydrochloride) Tablets and Wellbutrin SR (bupropion hydrochloride) Sustained-Release Tablets
You can reduce the chances of experiencing a seizure by following your doctor's directions on how to take Zyban. You should also discuss with your doctor whether Zyban is right for you. Raloxifene's biological actions are largely mediated through binding to estrogen receptors. This binding results in activation of certain estrogenic pathways and blockade of others. Thus, raloxifene is a selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM). This medicine is an ACE inhibitor and thiazide diuretic combination used to treat high blood pressure. Accuretic may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.
Accuretic combines two types of blood pressure medication. The first, quinapril hydrochloride, is an ACE (angiotensin-converting enzyme) inhibitor. It works by preventing a chemical in your blood called angiotensin I from converting into a more potent form (angiotensin II) that increases salt and water retention in the body and causes the blood vessels to constrict---two actions that tend to increase blood pressure. To aid in clearing excess water from the body, Accuretic also contains hydrochlorothiazide, a diuretic that promotes production of urine. Diuretics often wash too much potassium out of the body along with the water. However, the ACE inhibitor part of Accuretic tends to keep potassium in the body, thereby canceling this unwanted effect.
Accuretic is not used for the initial treatment of high blood pressure. It is saved for later use, when a single blood pressure medication is not sufficient for the job. In addition, some doctors are using Accuretic along with other drugs to treat congestive heart failure.
Most important fact about Accuretic
You must take Accuretic regularly for it to be effective. Since blood pressure declines gradually, it may be several weeks before you get the full benefit of Accuretic; and you must continue taking it even if you are feeling well. Accuretic does not cure high blood pressure; it merely keeps it under control. This medicine is an ACE inhibitor and thiazide diuretic combination used to treat high blood pressure.
